Absence

Absence, inspired by the late novels of David Markson, exists as an accumulation of short anecdotes from the history of art, film, literature, music, and pop culture. Associations develop between these often random facts and transform into musings on the nature of selfhood, ownership, authenticity, and paradox. All this while the only “character” is the voice that speaks these facts. The voice is perhaps using these endless tidbits in an attempt to confirm the shape of its own personality and existence. Or maybe to pull that shape apart.
Absence exists in two forms. 1) As a downloadable audio-work 2) As a live performance that facilitates a meditative atmosphere of collective listening, for relaxation and personal reflection.
Absence premiered at Coffey Street Studios in Brooklyn, in September 2022.
