The Dalí Project

The Dalí Project was a dance-theater piece, devised in response to a series of paintings by Salvador Dalí. Composed of three distinct movements, the performance examined the ways in which fiction is activated onstage. If the set, and lighting and sound elements are constructed as a part of the performance, and the actors “get into character” onstage, at what moment and why does the audience exit the room and enter a fictional realm? Inspired by the notion that all performance is “site specific” the project sought to ask these questions by activating aspects of the imagery and narratives within Dalí’s work, while creating a performance that would only be possible in the Studio in which it was performed at Skidmore College.
